A new WeTV trailer promoting ‘Braxton Family Values’ latest season shows the family’s reaction to Tamar Braxton’s suicide attempt
Although the latest season of WeTV‘s hit reality series Braxton Family Values will not include much of Tamar Braxton, the singer’s presence was still felt heavily in the trailer for the new season.
In the teaser, Braxton’s mother and sisters comment on her hospitalization this past summer from a suicide attempt, and she is not happy about it.
The trailer shows Braxton’s oldest sister, multi-Grammy winner Toni Braxton, receiving the news of her suicide attempt over the phone while doing vocals in a recording studio.
“Twenty-twenty has been a year like never before for me and my family,” Toni Braxton said in a clip, likening the news to “a bad dream.”
Tamar’s mother, Evelyn Braxton, said in the trailer that it was Toni that called her with the news. Sister Towanda Braxton said she was “stunned and really numb” after getting the news.
Sister Traci Braxton said, “there was no way to prepare for this.”
After the trailer posted on Wednesday, Tamar took to her Instagram page to respond, posting the following message, according to E Online.
“After waking up to that disgusting trailer…F–K @wetv and whomever else participating for using my pain for their pleasure and ratings,” Tamar wrote. “At some point this abuse HAS to STOP‼ and P.S. IM NOT FILMING FOR THIS SEASON! THEY ARE DOING THIS WHILE IM NOT ON THE SHOW‼ #SCUMBAGS**T.”
As previously reported by theGrio, Tamar had been unhappy with her relationship with WeTV and asked to be removed from her contract, which the company obliged. She had written them an email stating her displeasure with how she and her family was being portrayed on Braxton Family Values, particularly in reference to getting her to speak on camera about past abuse.
Tamar told the network that they took advantage of her and that the last straw occurred “the day you dug up a secret I’d never shared with anyone, a secret I was so ashamed to talk about that I hid it even from my own mom: the fact that I had been assaulted and raped repeatedly from age 6 to age 16, sometimes multiple times a day.”
She went on to write, “You broke me that day and I considered ending my own life then for the shame I felt!”
