Megan Thee Stallion (born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete) has had a busy (and controversial) 2020.
The Houston native delivered a memorable performance on SNL, she created a scholarship for women of color, published a New York Times opinion piece, and was named Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the BET Hip Hop Awards 2020 and GQ.
She’s currently embattled in a criminal case with Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, who is facing felony charges for allegedly shooting at Megan’s feet during an argument following a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house in July.
Megan was hospitalized and had bullet fragments removed from both feet. Lanez has denied shooting her and claims Megan and her camp are setting him up.
The theGrio previously reported, Lanez was charged in October with assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He was also hit with gun charges and allegations of inflicting great bodily injury.
Lanez pleaded not guilty on Tuesday (Nov. 18). If convicted on all charges, he faces 22 years in prison.
