The 25-year-old, who previously identified as queer and uses she/they pronouns is a staunch supporter of LGBTQ+ visibility. In addition to her own, Kehlani has continuously encouraged people to explore their sexuality.
The multi-hyphenate artist also explained why they choose to use pronouns that aren’t intrinsically linked to one gender, affirming their fluidity— a quality they claim they’ve always been perceptive of.
“I’m definitely on the non-binary scale,” she told DIVA Magazine in a 2020 interview. “But I still prefer and am totally fine with the pronoun ‘she’. My energy has always been extremely fluid between masculine and feminine so that’s why I use ‘queer’, and also, queer is inclusive to non-binary people.”
