A Twitter user captured Trump supporters following a Biden-Harris bus on a Texas highway
The FBI is investigating an incident that took place Friday when more than a dozen vehicles donning Trump flags and slogans surrounded a Biden-Harris campaign bus on a Texas interstate.
The Biden campaign was forced to cancel multiple events while in Texas due to “safety concerns.” The confrontation was captured on video on I-35 in Hays County and lead to a minor collision, according to the Texas Tribune.
“The highway skirmish came as Democrats close ground in a state that is polling like a potential battleground in the race for president,” the publication wrote. “Recent polls indicate the presidential race in Texas between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden is tight, with some national prognosticators calling it a ‘toss-up.‘”
After the incident, Trump quickly reacted on twitter saying, “I LOVE TEXAS!”
When reached for comment, Texas GOP Chairman Allen West dismissed the questions surrounding the incident in a pointed statement. “It is more fake news and propaganda. Prepare to lose… stop bothering me.”
The New York Post reports that the incident was promoted online in advance with the hashtag #FollowTheBus with one user tweeting, “Trolling is Fun! Join us in #SanAntonio to escort the Biden bus coming through San Antonio.”
On Twitter, Naomi Narvaiz, a Texas Republican Party official in San Marcos, said Trump supporters formed the convey in support of the president and voiced her opposition to the Biden-Harris campaign.
“We sent @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris bus out of Hays,” Narvaiz wrote on Twitter. “Your kind aren’t welcome here!”
In a statement to the Tribune on Saturday, she furthered expressed: “We don’t want any of the values or policies that the Democratic Party is embracing. We don’t want any of those in Texas.”
Eric Cervini, a volunteer for the Biden campaign and native of Texas, told the paper he saw a line of 40-50 vehicles on the highway with Trump and American flags. Cervini started to hear from individuals on the bus that Trump supporters were following them closely, honking their horns, and shouting.
The Biden campaign said that multiple trucks went as far as pulling in front of the bus in an effort to slow it down.
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett accused Trump of inciting “aggressive, abusive conduct” in a statement to the Tribune.
“Those who fear their party is about to lose Texas resort to such desperate tactics,” Doggett said. “We have to stand up to these bullies just as we seek to protect the right of every last Texan to vote out the Bully-in-Chief.”
